As life insurance professionals, we often speak of hypothetical situations. When we come across a real life example of life insurance at work, we are always eager to share the details with interested consumers. In today’s post we will be sharing one mother’s heartbreaking, yet encouraging, story. By making a very mature decision, at a young age, she insured her son’s bright future.
Summer Stokes was a beautiful, bubbly, hardworking young woman. At the age of 22, Ms. Stokes was financially independent and working as a waitress while attending school with dreams becoming a doctor. She dutifully dropped by her insurance agent’s office every month to pay her auto insurance premium. On one of her monthly visits, Summer shared that she was pregnant. Her insurance agent was thrilled to hear Summer’s news, and she took the opportunity to educate Ms. Stokes about life insurance. After listening intently, Summer agreed to give it some thought. Several months later Ms. Stokes decided that, even on her limited income, she could afford a $12 per month life insurance premium.
Soon after Summer made that fateful decision, she gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby boy. Tragically, just nine months after her policy was issued, Summer was struck by a car and killed. After the accident, Summer’s mother Coleen was relieved to learn that the life insurance death benefit from her daughter’s policy provided adequate funds to cover her daughter’s final expenses and an adequate amount to provide for young Nathan’s living expenses and college education. Without Ms. Stokes’ life insurance benefit, her mother and her young baby would have faced an uncertain future. Summer’s decision to protect her son will pay off for many years to come.
Ms. Stokes’ story is just one example of the many reasons to purchase life insurance protection. Regardless of your age, financial status or parental responsibilities, a life insurance policy can provide for your loved ones in the event of the unexpected.
