There are a lot of situations in life where we can be proactive. If we want to maintain our weight, we can control what we eat and how often we exercise. If we want to stay on top of our health and dental hygiene, we make sure to see the doctor for an annual physical and bi-annual dental checkup.
But how do you prepare for a freak accident?
This is why having a life insurance is so critical, because it covers things that are out of your control and potentially crippling for your family finances.
Today’s post will explore four unexpected, bizarre accidents that tragically cut lives short.
1) Crocodile on a plane: In 2010, a plane with two pilots and twenty passengers crashed over the Republic of Congo, killing all but one passenger. Was the crash attributed to mechanical failure? No, the crash happened after a crocodile on the plane escaped.
A passenger smuggled a crocodile in his sports bag and when the plane descended the reptile got free, causing the flight attendant and passengers to rush to the cockpit, sending the plane off-balance where it subsequently crashed.
2) The demise of a groom during his wedding: Your wedding day is supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life. Unfortunately, for one bride, her wedding day was one the happiest and saddest. Six hours after saying ‘I do’, the groom, Fabio Jefferson Dos Santos Maciel had a beer glass in his pocket while dancing with one of the bridesmaids, when he lost his balance and fell, shattering the glass. The glass shards severed his femoral artery, and he died a short while later.
3) Inflatable sculpture malfunction: Maurice Agis had been making dream-like inflatable art, called Dreamscapes, for more than a decade, and over 250,000 people all across Europe have interacted with his art. However, one Sunday in County Durham, United Kingdom, his giant walk-through sculpture tore from its foundation and flew into the air--with 30 people inside. Two women died, and a dozen were badly injured.
4) Killed by a safe: This story is about the death of Jack Daniels. Yes, that Jack Daniels. Mr. Daniels came to work early before anyone else had arrived to finish some paperwork. There was only one problem, he forgot the combination to open the safe. He kicked the safe with his foot out of frustration. The impact of his toe against the safe gave him an infection, leading to his eventual leg amputation. He died of complications related to the gangrene in 1911.
Accidents are something you can’t prepare for, and in some cases when they happen, you may not get a second chance. It’s important to protect your family in the event that an accident claims your life unexpectedly.
